Frequently Asked Questions

Optimizing your listing
Should I add images to my listing?
Yes! a logo can provide a professional touch to a business listing (and not a lot of sites will let you), and images can make it more friendly and appealing to someone searching for a professional.

Should I update my business listing often?
You'll want to make sure it's updated and accurate as possible. Nothing's worse than researching a business, and contacting only to find out that the information is outdated, or worse, just wrong (remember, users can rate you!)

We do notify the different search engines when listings have changed in order to make sure the most accurate and up-to-date is in their results. More up to date info = more traffic.

Does the name of the image matter?
Yes and no. Nothing bad will happen if you give it any random name (as 98% of all people do on the internet), but if you give your images relevant names, like your business name or keywords to your business, it can help improve traffic to your listing.

What about marketing?
Let us help you. Bringing years of experience with Adsense and Adwords, and numerous other programs, we actively market the site to targeted niches and regions.

Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

What title should I give my listing?
Very important question. Especially if the name you want is already taken.

You have two options, use the name of your business (best) or a variation of it combined with a keyword or two related your your business (eg, "John Doe's plumbing of Seattle", or "John Doe LLC", etc).

This will be extremely important since we use this title for the URL of your listing, and the page tile of your listing. Both are very important to search engines, therefore, important in helping potential customers find you.

Our research shows that people will often search for, example, "electrician Dallas", and not just "electrician". So, if you also have the location in the title, you're far more likely get more traffic to your page (but this isn't a requirement). You do want to be sure your title is concise, to the point and not to long.

Also, we strongly discourage the use of ALL CAPITAL LETTERS for your business title. This is annoying and actually isn't effective.

Can I change the title of my listing?
Sure, but we'd advise against waiting too long to do it. Why? Because search engines take several months (1-6 months) to have a page well indexed, ie, build up history for a specific page. You change it later, yo risk "starting over".

Can I get help with optimization?
Sure, if you don't succeed in finding people, or people finding you, we don't succeed.

Just drop us a line via the contact form, at the bottom of the page.

What if I don't see a category that fits?
Let us know, and we look into adding it. see our contact link at the bottom of the page.

Is there a visibility benefit to larger listing plans?
Yes, but just in the priority level of the information we give to the search engines.

The larger plans, are given higher priority to the search engine crawlers because these are likely to change the most often. Example, search engines are given these listings to "read" first, when looking for new content on the site.

The smaller plans we offer are for the smaller businesses, with few changes to their information.

However, all listings can ensure good search engine coverage if they keep their listings updated on a regular basis. We keep track of the last modified date of all listings, and provide this to the search engines as well.

The more up-to-date content is, the more likely someone will find you via a search engine.

Does it matter what, or how many, categories I list my business under?
Not really, but it should fit the business you're in. If not, we reserve the right to change it, or cancel your listing and/or account in the case of abuse.

Do note, if you do list under multiple categories, the first category you list will be at the very top of the page. This is the first thing people AND search engines will see, so it better be accurate!
